The Pokémon Trading Card Game is set to expand during the spring season with an exciting new release: Chaos Rising. The Pokémon Company announced the global launch date for this anticipated expansion as May 22, with prerelease tournaments scheduled to take place from May 9 to May 17. Players can also look forward to the set debuting in Pokémon TCG Live on May 21.
In an official announcement, trainers can expect to encounter Mega Floette ex unleashing chaos in Lumiose City as darkness descends. “Trainers can utilize Mega Greninja ex along with other formidable Pokémon such as Mega Pyroar ex and Mega Dragalge ex to combat this new threat,” the statement reads. Additionally, fans are teased with the introduction of a new Espurr card.
This expansive set will feature a total of five Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, five Pokémon ex, 11 illustration rare Pokémon, 18 ultra rare Pokémon and Trainer cards, and six special illustration rare Pokémon and supporter cards. Overall, the Mega Evolution—Chaos Rising set will boast over 120 cards, including at least 20 Trainer cards and more than 35 cards featuring unique illustrations of trainers alongside their Pokémon.
Chaos Rising marks the fourth addition to the ongoing Mega Evolution block, which initiated in late 2025. This block revitalizes the Mega Evolution mechanic, allowing it to function similarly to traditional evolution rather than relying on a Spirit Link tool card. This upcoming set follows the Ascended Heroes expansion released in January, which introduced more than 290 new cards, and the Perfect Order expansion, scheduled to launch on March 27 with over 120 new cards as well.
The Mega Greninja ex Special Illustration Rare is anticipated to be a standout acquisition within this collection. In terms of lore, it has intriguing connections to the Pokémon anime, where Ash Ketchum and his Greninja underwent a fusion process known as Bond Phenomenon. While similar in concept, Ash-Greninja does not qualify as a Mega Evolution. Although Ash-Greninja has graced trading cards in the past, Greninja only received its official Mega Evolution form with the release of the 2025 video game Pokémon Legends: Z‑A, making Chaos Rising the first expansion to feature Mega Greninja in the TCG format.
While full card lists and product specifics remain under wraps, Chaos Rising is poised to further enhance the Mega Evolution theme captivating the TCG community and promises to deliver a plethora of exciting chase cards for collectors and players alike.
