As we approach the exciting annual rotation of the Pokémon TCG, it’s time to bid farewell to old decks and welcome a slew of fresh cards from the latest Pokémon sets. This year’s rotation promises to shake things up significantly, with top-tier decks like Gardevoir and Charizard exiting the stage.

With these powerhouse decks retiring, which contenders will rise to take their place? Pokémon TCG Live has been featuring post-rotation play for nearly two weeks, providing valuable insights into the upcoming meta after April 10.

If your deck is cycling out of Standard and you’re unsure of your next move, read on for a rundown of the standout Pokémon decks for the post-rotation landscape.

1. Dragapult ex

In the wake of the rotation, Dragapult stands as the prime candidate to ascend the Poké-throne. Unlike its competitors, Dragapult ex maintains a strong position, losing very little in the transition.

This line-up boasts solid abilities, with Drakloak offering card draw and Dragapult delivering potent damage to both active and bench Pokémon. Some players prefer to pair Dragapult with other heavy-hitters like Blaziken or Dusknoir to enhance its effectiveness.

Regardless of how you build it, Dragapult is set to dominate the next meta, which is why Lily’s Clefairy—weakening all dragons to psychic-type attacks—is becoming increasingly popular.

2. Mega Lucario ex/Hariyama

This deck features a formidable stage 1 Mega ex Pokémon with a built-in ability that mimics Boss’s Orders, alongside a new special energy type designed to counter Pokémon like Alakazam. On paper, it has all the makings of a champion.

However, it faces challenges due to the prevalence of Lily’s Clefairy, which can easily send Mega Lucario packing.

3. Teal Mask Ogerpon

With Charizard out of the picture, Grass-types are back in action! Teal Mask Ogerpon has risen in popularity and is now vying with Dragapult for the title of most versatile deck. A notable variant pairs Ogerpon with the new Mega Evolution, Meganium, which doubles its attack damage, reminiscent of last year’s Celebi/Serperior combo!

4. Alakazam/Dundunsparce

This deck is perfect for players who love card draw and strategic evolution. Both Alakazam and Dundunsparce help you build a larger hand, allowing Alakazam’s attack to potentially wipe out opponents. However, the strategy is vulnerable to counters that can mitigate its ability to place damage counters effectively.

If managed correctly, this represents the finest single-prize deck in the post-rotation meta.

5. Team Rocket

After not gaining traction before, the Destined Rivals deck resurfaces with a diverse toolbox to combat the current meta. Featuring powerful psychic attacker Mewtwo to challenge Lucario and Dragapult, as well as Team Rocket’s Articuno to counter Alakazam, it offers a balanced approach.

Surprisingly, Spidops turns out to be a star player, hitting hard for a one-prize Pokémon while effortlessly powering up its own energy. Are you ready for trouble?
