The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is set to undergo an exciting transformation with the release of the Mega Evolution set. Here’s all you need to know to get ready for this highly anticipated release!
1. Release Date and Overview
The Mega Evolution set will hit the shelves on September 26, marking the beginning of a new Mega Evolution block. This set stands out because it exclusively features Mega Evolutions; all ten Mega cards will yield three Prize cards when defeated.
2. Set Composition
The Mega Evolution cards are entirely drawn from Japan’s recent releases, notably Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia. Notably, two Illustration Rares have been replaced with promos for Elite Trainer Boxes. Keep an eye out for major reprints like Rare Candy, Boss’s Orders, and Ultra Ball, distinguished by their updated regulation I status.
3. Booster Box Options
Two types of booster boxes will be available: a standard version and an Enhanced edition. The Enhanced version will include a special Bulbasaur Illustration Rare box topper as a promo. This is a great chance for collectors to acquire exclusive content.
4. Prerelease Events
Join the fun at prerelease events from September 13 to 21. You’ll receive a Build & Battle Box that includes a holo promo featuring one of several Pokémon, such as Meganium or Inteleon, adorned with exclusive artwork. Use the event locator to find an event near you!

Store promos are always a treat! For the Mega Evolution set, you can score a special Yveltal promo at GameStop and an Xerneas promo at Best Buy. To grab these, simply purchase $15 or more in Pokémon TCG products, whether you’re shopping online or in-store.
