The Pokémon Trading Card Game is gearing up for a busy start to 2026, with an exciting lineup of sets on the horizon. Following the recent release of Perfect Order, the highly anticipated Chaos Rising is set to launch on May 22, with pre-release events kicking off as early as May 9. This influx of new content promises to keep fans on their toes.

Thanks to Poke Beach, we have insight into the upcoming July set, Pitch Black. Enthusiasts are buzzing with speculation regarding the potential return of a significant gameplay mechanic that has been a point of contention among players—some cheer its return, while others prefer its absence.

Pokémon TCG’s Pitch Black Set Confirmed for July

We Have The Dates

According to the report, the Pitch Black set will focus on the theme of Darkrai, which features a Mega Evolution in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Mega Dimension DLC. This set is slated for release on Friday, July 17, with pre-release events scheduled from July 4-12. Details about the set remain scarce, as many elements will be revealed following Japan’s lead, starting with the release of Abyss Eye on May 22.

Will The Lost Zone Return To the Pokémon TCG?

Fans Are Predicting A Revival

While information remains limited about the Pitch Black set, fans are already buzzing with theories that this could herald the return of the Lost Zone mechanic. Originally launched in 2009 and briefly returning in 2018, the Lost Zone is a special game area from which cards cannot be retrieved. After being retired until 2022 and shelved again, many believe it’s time for its resurgence.

One fan on the Poke Beach forums expressed, “It’s strange to me how we still don’t know any of the cards in Abyss Eye (I know the theories for why), and I wish they kept the Japanese name for the English set. Also, the Lost Zone potentially coming back is exciting and terrifying.”

As for predictions regarding new cards, possibilities include Mega Slowbro as an exciting new addition, given that cards which significantly alter gameplay tend to be expedited into the meta.

With the 30th anniversary set also on the way, expect plenty of excitement—and possibly shortages—as we approach the end of 2026 for the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
